Kwekerij Houtepen/de Groot invests in new controls for cultivation system on gutters

SDF will supply the software control for the automatic cultivation system for one of the locations of kwekerij de Groot, namely Gebr. Houtepen. 

This system automatically controls the cultivation gutters with shuttles when plants are moved. Whether feeding, widening, sorting or delivering, everything can be controlled from SDF Horti Software. Besides the combination with sister company HAWE, SDF also does this with other parties, like in this case with WPS.

Future-proof control

After years of experience with both SDF and Distel, Kwekerij Houtepen again chooses SDF Horti Software to renew the cultivation system on gutters. The reason? The expiring support of their current system based on BIT technology, once supplied by Distel, which has been inactive since 2015.

Whereas previous modernization attempts in 2021 stranded other suppliers due to complexity, SDF picked up the project again in early 2024. “The nice thing about SDF is the industry knowledge,” says Corne Houtepen. "You don't have to explain what a WPS system is or what cameras do. That makes working together much easier."

Implementation in October

The implementation, scheduled for October 2025, will be an exciting journey: camera systems and WPS integrations must be temporarily shut down. SDF will take over full BIT functionality in a new, unified control environment. Based on solid preliminary research and well-coordinated planning, Houtepen looks forward with confidence to a future-proof system that will help them maintain their competitive position.
