The Challenge
Schenkeveld identified a need to substantially expand cultivation capacity to meet growing market demand and reinforce their position as a reliable supplier of high-quality horticultural products. The Schiphol location offered strategic advantages but presented significant challenges: the need for rapid, large-scale construction, strict compliance with environmental standards, and the requirement to maximize yield with minimal resource input. Maintaining year-round quality and operational reliability while preparing for future scalability were central to the project's objectives.
The Solution
Schenkeveld conducted a rigorous evaluation of greenhouse construction partners, prioritizing expertise in large-scale, sustainable horticulture projects. KUBO was selected for its proven track record in delivering turnkey Venlo greenhouses that combine engineering excellence with sustainability. The collaborative approach allowed for seamless integration of advanced systems, enabling precise climate control, resource optimization, and robust food safety protocols. Each greenhouse, approximately 11 hectares in size, was designed for efficient workflow, scalability, and compliance with the most stringent industry regulations. KUBO's project management ensured that deadlines were met and that all safety and quality assurance measures were rigorously observed throughout construction.

The Results
The partnership between Schenkeveld and KUBO resulted in the successful commissioning of three new Venlo greenhouses, each covering 11 hectares, by early 2022. A fourth greenhouse of equivalent scale was initiated, further boosting operational capacity. The integrated facility now enables Schenkeveld to process up to 300,000 kg of tomatoes daily, while advanced greenhouse technology ensures optimal climate control, energy efficiency, and reduced environmental footprint. The project has established a scalable blueprint for high-volume, sustainable horticultural production, positioning Schenkeveld as an industry leader in the region.
About Schenkeveld
Schenkeveld is a family-owned greenhouse horticulture company founded in 1937 by Leo Schenkeveld, who started by growing various crops. Jan and Peter Schenkeveld later expanded the business into a fully fledged greenhouse company.
In 2002, Schenkeveld stopped growing cucumbers and fully shifted its focus to vine tomatoes, becoming a member of Prominent. Over the years, the company has grown to five locations in the Westland region and a greenhouse complex in Rijsenhout.
