Selected Group: cultivation in a footprint-certified greenhouse
KUBO, in collaboration with Selected Group, has built one of Europe’s most innovative climate-positive tomato greenhouses. The project marks phase 2 of the partnership and demonstrates how large-scale sustainable food production can be made both practical and profitable.
With a focus on high yields, efficient energy use and a demonstrably lower climate impact, this greenhouse marks a new step forward in future-proof greenhouse horticulture.

Of Sweden’s tomato demand
Selected Group can provide up to 10% of Sweden’s total tomato demand.
lower CO₂
The project contributes to lower CO₂ emissions.
“Once both greenhouses are fully operational, they are expected to supply around 10% of Sweden’s total tomato consumption, significantly reducing reliance on imports.”

The Challenge
Sweden’s domestic tomato production covers only a fraction of national demand, leading to heavy reliance on imports. Selected Group saw an opportunity to change that by expanding local production, but only through a solution that met strict energy, water, and CO₂ efficiency targets. The challenge: scale up sustainably without compromising profitability or quality.
The Solution
KUBO designed and engineered a 10-hectare Ultra-Clima® greenhouse, including a 1-hectare service area, equipped with:
- Advanced screening systems for optimal light control, insulation, and energy efficiency.
- Sustainable installations for water, electrical, and heating systems.
- Integrated climate control for precise management of temperature, humidity, and CO₂.
Through KUBO’s Smart Growing program, operators receive on-site and remote support for a seamless start-up and efficient operation. Real-time insights from PYLOT continuously optimize airflow, heat recovery, and energy use, while training via the Blueprint Platform ensures consistent, high-quality cultivation in line with GLOBAL G.A.P. standards.
The facility holds an independent carbon-footprint certificate, verifying that tomatoes grown in Ultra-Clima® emit 25.4% less CO₂ (0.949 vs 1.272 kg CO₂e/kg) than in a traditional Venlo greenhouse. By capturing and reusing CO₂ within the system, the greenhouse takes an important step toward CO₂-negative cultivation. Proof that technology and sustainability can grow together.

The Results
The completed Frövi 2 Ultra-Clima® greenhouse covers 100,000 m² and supplies around 10% of Sweden’s annual tomato demand. With a certified 25.4% CO₂ reduction and an emissions level of 0.949 kg CO₂e per kg of tomatoes, the project delivers clear, measurable environmental gains.
Its advanced systems enable efficient resource use, stable production, and climate-positive results. Strengthening Selected Group’s leadership in sustainable cultivation and setting a scalable model for future green infrastructure projects.
About Selected Group
Selected Group, founded in Denmark in 2016, invests in green infrastructure and sustainable horticulture across Europe. The company focuses on large-scale greenhouse projects that balance environmental responsibility with long-term economic value, demonstrated by its ongoing RegEnergy Frövi initiative in partnership with KUBO.
