The Challenge

Windset Farms needed to expand its production capacity to meet growing demand in domestic and export markets. At the same time, the company aimed to stay aligned with its sustainability principles. The expansion of the Delta, British Columbia facility required the design and construction of a highly advanced illuminated greenhouse that met strict regulatory standards and could be delivered on a tight schedule.

Year round production of high quality vegetables demanded stable climate control, efficient lighting and integrated systems that reduce resource use and limit light emissions.

The Solution

Windset Farms selected KUBO for its proven expertise in sustainable, large-scale greenhouse development. After reviewing industry options, KUBO’s technical approach and commitment to responsible resource use stood out. The project involved a Venlo greenhouse with grow lights, equipped with advanced climate control, energy efficient lighting and a closed-loop water system. Close collaboration and clear project management ensured timely delivery and full operational compliance. As CEO Steven Newell noted, KUBO’s knowledge and dedication to sustainable cultivation made this ambition achievable.

The Results

The new facility is now the largest illuminated vegetable greenhouse in western North America, covering 97,290 square meters in Canada. It enables Windset Farms to supply high-quality tomatoes and cucumbers throughout the year to customers in Canada, the United States and Asia. The greenhouse integrates multiple sustainable technologies such as hydropower, biomass boilers, climate screens that reduce light emissions and advanced water recirculation. These solutions increase output and significantly lower environmental impact, setting a new benchmark for sustainable Controlled Environment Agriculture in the region.
