Extreme temperature

Year-round organic production is made possible, even in extreme temperatures.

“It’s a positive-pressure greenhouse with a single air inlet. This helps prevent insects from entering the greenhouse. Anything that can help prevent diseases and pests is a plus.”

The Challenge

Operating in regions with extreme heat—where temperatures frequently exceed 40°C—Wholesum faced critical obstacles in maintaining organic crop production throughout the year. Traditional greenhouse solutions such as pad and fan systems and open structures failed to provide the precise climate management and energy efficiency necessary for organic certification and reliable yields. Furthermore, fluctuating gas supply and persistent pest pressures threatened both sustainability efforts and crop health. Meeting organic standards in these demanding conditions required an advanced, resilient approach to greenhouse cultivation.

The Solution

Wholesum explored multiple options to address their climate and sustainability challenges but found that only the Ultra-Clima® greenhouse, engineered by KUBO, offered the technical capabilities required for robust, year-round organic cultivation. The positive-pressure, semi-closed design provided precise climate control, substantial energy savings, and effective pest exclusion. Wholesum worked closely with KUBO to tailor Ultra-Clima® systems to specific regional and crop needs, making iterative improvements over time. According to Theojary Crisantes, COO of Wholesum: "Fifteen years ago, farming was much more trial and error than it is now. The Ultra-Clima greenhouse has a steep learning curve, and we're still learning every day. Back then, we didn't have the information sources that we have now. Farming was much more trial and error than it is today, with KUBO's Smart Growing. In the past, you had to do a lot of your own research, but now KUBO has the knowledge of the technology and farming." This partnership approach allowed Wholesum to continuously adapt and optimize their operations. As Crisantes adds: "We've made about a hundred adjustments to tailor the Ultra-Clima greenhouse to our needs. Each location is different, and we will continue to make adjustments in the future. That's why the partnership with KUBO is so important. KUBO is a partner that listens to us well. It has been for years."

The Results

Wholesum's adoption of Ultra-Clima® greenhouses transformed their operational capabilities. The cultivated area expanded from an initial 2.5 hectares to 24 hectares across both the US and Mexico, demonstrating both scalability and reliability. With the Ultra-Clima® system, Wholesum achieved a stable, optimal crop climate, reduced energy consumption, and strengthened pest and disease prevention. Integration of solar panels now provides 75% of energy needs, furthering

Wholesum's sustainability leadership. Over 15 years, the collaboration with KUBO has enabled continuous innovation, adaptation, and knowledge-sharing, positioning Wholesum as a pioneer in sustainable organic greenhouse farming.
