Hanasand Gård continues to grow with KUBO

For 90 years, greenhouse horticulture has been part of Hanasand Gård on Rennesøy, Norway. Today, Stig Jakob and Monica Hanasand continue that tradition with a specialised tomato business serving the Norwegian market.

Their latest expansion marks the third project Hanasand Gård has entrusted to KUBO. The new development adds 11,321 m² of greenhouse area and 364 m² of service space to the company's existing 25,000 m² greenhouse operation, creating significant additional capacity for the next stage of the family business.

The Challenge

Hanasand Gård has continuously developed its greenhouse operation in response to changing markets and growing demand for high-quality tomatoes.

The first greenhouse was built in 1936. When Stig Jakob joined the family business in 2001, Hanasand operated around 7,000 m² of greenhouse space and produced approximately 250 tonnes of tomatoes per year.

Since 2015, the company has focused on tomato production. Today, Hanasand operates approximately 25,000 m² of greenhouse space and produces around 2,000 tonnes of tomatoes annually, including a wide range of speciality varieties for the Norwegian market.

The next step is to create additional production capacity while continuing the growing approach that has shaped the business for generations.

The Solution

For this latest expansion, Hanasand Gård has once again chosen KUBO.

The project adds 11,321 m² of greenhouse area and a 364 m² service area. It is the third project in the partnership between Hanasand Gård and KUBO.

Once completed, the expansion will bring Hanasand Gård's total greenhouse area to approximately 36,321 m². This represents a substantial increase in growing capacity and gives the company additional room to continue developing its tomato production.

The Results

The expansion adds another chapter to a greenhouse history that began in 1936.

From approximately 7,000 m² of greenhouse space and 250 tonnes of tomatoes per year in 2001, Hanasand Gård has developed into a specialised tomato producer with around 25,000 m² of greenhouse area and annual production of approximately 2,000 tonnes.

The new KUBO greenhouse increases the company's growing area by more than 11,000 m² and supports the next phase of this long-term development.

For KUBO, being selected for a third project reflects a partnership built over multiple stages of Hanasand Gård's growth.
