KUBO partners with Windset Farms to pave way for sustainable greenhouse expansion

KUBO Greenhouse Projects, a leader in horticulture with a rich history that spans 75 years, is pleased to announce the completion of a new 9.7-acre greenhouse facility for WINDSET FARMS, located in Delta, BC, Canada. Windset Farms is one of North America's largest vertically integrated producers and sellers of greenhouse-grown produce, selling and marketing more than 1,100 acres of greenhouse vegetable production. KUBO is pleased to once again partner with one of the most innovative CEA companies in the industry. After building the largest operating greenhouse in the United States in Santa Maria California, Windset Farms has chosen to work with KUBO for its new Delta facility. The greenhouse is the largest LED-lit facility in BC. Using sustainable initiatives, including renewable hydropower and biomass boilers, Windset Farms will produce high-quality tomatoes and cucumbers year-round for Western Canadian, U.S. and Asian markets. This is an important milestone in both companies' commitment to sustainable agriculture. Windset focuses on innovation to maximize quality and flavor and will be ready to meet the increasing demand for year-round locally grown produce.

With a philosophy rooted in sustainability, KUBO's mission is to enable global entrepreneurs to produce for their local markets using conventional and semi-closed greenhouses. By promoting energy and water conservation, reducing CO2 emissions, ensuring food safety and improving yields of superior quality, the future of greenhouses as envisioned by KUBO is blue.

KUBO previously partnered with Windset Farms on the company's Santa Maria facility, which built the largest single-site vegetable greenhouse in the United States and the world's largest Ultra-Clima greenhouse. The Ultra-Clima is a groundbreaking innovation and illustrates KUBO's commitment to improved production, maximum food safety, minimal energy and water consumption and reduced CO2 emissions. The Ultra-Clima, combined with Santa Maria's unique growing climate, enables Windset Farms to achieve record yields for sustainable cultivation without lighting.

Wouter Kuiper, Chief Executive Officer of KUBO Greenhouse Projects, stated, "It was a great honor to work again with Windset Farms, which is already setting new records in the industry! Thanks to Windset Farms' exemplary construction team, the entire 24-acre greenhouse structure in Delta, from foundation to roof glazing, was completed in a record 80 days! We look forward to seeing Windset Farms continue to be a leader in the greenhouse industry."

With a vision to deliver sustainably grown products to its target markets, Windset Farms called on KUBO's expertise in contracting, engineering, manufacturing and construction of its new facility in Delta, BC. Sustainability was at the forefront of the new construction. Dual climate curtains, ventilation jets and dimming LED lighting are essential to control and reduce energy consumption. Thermal screens and full light-absorbing curtains on the roof and side walls will eliminate light pollution. Reverse osmosis and ozone systems are also used for water recirculation.

The first planting of the new greenhouse is scheduled for spring 2024. Canadian consumers will be able to enjoy local produce year-round. The strategic locations of Windset's production and distribution facilities ensures accessibility to more than 125 million consumers within a 24-hour drive!

Steven Newell, CEO of Windset Farms, is excited about the project, "By 2024, our Delta greenhouse facility will become the largest lighted greenhouse vegetable facility in western North America using renewable hydropower and biomass boilers. KUBO's expertise and unwavering commitment to sustainable cultivation ensured that this goal could become a reality. We are proud to have them as key supply partners for this groundbreaking expansion."

The partnership between KUBO and Windset Farms embodies a shared commitment to shaping the future of sustainable agriculture. As our industry leaders join forces, we strive to set new standards for responsible and innovative greenhouse farming.
