More than a greenhouse: the structure where everything comes together
When Koppert Cress considers another greenhouse project, KUBO is the first partner it calls. That confidence has grown through a long relationship built not around one delivery, but around what comes next. CEO Stijn Baan explains how KUBO’s long-term vision, willingness to be challenged and ability to bring different ideas together support the way Koppert Cress works. One practical need makes the story especially concrete: different specialities require different amounts of space, from one bay to five.
Hear the story from Koppert Cress
Why does Koppert Cress call KUBO first when another greenhouse project is being considered? In this 90-second customer film, Stijn Baan talks about long-term vision, challenging one another and the practical need for greenhouse space that can support very different specialities. Koppert Cress tells the story. KUBO is the partner helping the different needs and ideas come together.
How the greenhouse supports Koppert Cress
Fossil-free
With the new greenhouse and its connection to geothermal energy, Koppert Cress has been growing completely fossil-free since 2026. A major step towards future-proof horticulture.
Surface
The state-of-the-art greenhouse covers approximately 12.000 m2. Climate, heat, insulation and CO2 come together in one integrated energy system.
Energy Savings
The Geysir low-E glass used in the greenhouse is designed to reduce energy consumption by approximately 22%, retaining heat while maintaining high light transmission.
"It’s not about doing that one project. It’s about making sure we can always find each other for the projects ahead."
The Challenge
Different specialities. Different requirements.
Koppert Cress works with a wide range of specialities, and those products do not all require the same amount of greenhouse space.
Stijn Baan makes that difference concrete: for some specialities, one bay may be sufficient, while others require five. That creates an operational challenge. The greenhouse environment needs to support different spatial requirements without treating every speciality in exactly the same way.
At the same time, Koppert Cress does not view a new greenhouse as an isolated project. Each build forms part of a longer development path. That means the requirement is not only about what works today, but also about creating an environment that supports the company’s ambition to keep moving forward.
The Solution
Bringing different needs and ideas together.
Koppert Cress describes KUBO’s role less as supplying one predefined answer and more as helping different ideas come together within one greenhouse environment.
That approach is rooted in a long-term relationship. According to Stijn Baan, KUBO’s long-term vision is one of the qualities that distinguishes the company. The two organisations challenge one another and continue looking beyond the project directly in front of them.
For the practical space requirement, that meant working around the varying needs of different specialities. Koppert Cress says it specifically challenged KUBO on the need for flexible use of the available greenhouse spaces.
“KUBO makes it possible to create synergy between all the different ideas out there.” And, in Stijn’s words: “It’s the structure where everything comes together.”

The Results
A greenhouse that supports what comes next.
The strongest result in this case is not expressed through a percentage or single performance figure. It is visible in the way Koppert Cress describes the greenhouse and the relationship behind it.
The environment supports different space requirements for different specialities. The partnership remains relevant beyond the current project. And when Koppert Cress considers building again, KUBO is the first partner the company says it calls.
The influence of the greenhouse also extends beyond cultivation. The film follows the journey through product handling and logistics to culinary application. Stijn says Koppert Cress supplies markets across Europe, as well as the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
For Stijn, the story ultimately points forward. “I’m incredibly proud of that, and I can’t wait for the next build.”
